Capacity and Institutional Strengthening Director – Inspire SBC.

The Capacity and Institutional Strengthening Director will be responsible for overseeing the Activity’s capacity and institutional strengthening team and portfolio of work. In this role, they will lead Inspire SBC’s capacity and institutional strengthening and organizational development activities, including establishing, refining, and strengthening frameworks, approaches, tools, and activities; maintaining the technical quality of activities and deliverables; and tracking achievements and results related to capacity and institutional strengthening and organizational development.

Key Responsibilities of Capacity and Institutional Strengthening Director will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading capacity and institutional strengthening activities, including the development, oversight, and refinement of strategies, frameworks, approaches, tools, and activities
  • Monitoring and evaluating capacity and institution strengthening strategies and activities, from activity initiation through delivery.
  • Leading the design and operationalization of the Activity’s capacity and institutional strengthening strategy and oversee implementation processes and procedures to support the quality execution of the strategy.
  • Ensuring that Inspire SBC’s Activity capacity and institutional strengthening, and organizational strategies and activities align with best practice and a range of adult learning methods.
  • Ensuring capacity and institutional strengthening interventions are integrated across all GH SBC’s result areas and aligned with desired Activity outcomes, working across Inspire SBC’s partners.
  • Designing and overseeing potential certification programs that validate skills in SBC strategy, implementation, scale-up, and evaluation, fostering a formalized career pathway for SBC professionals.
  • Championing local leadership in SBC by fostering a new generation of SBC champions who can drive innovation and sustain progress in health and development programs.
  • Strengthening connections among SBC actors and ensuring capacity and institutional strengthening and organizational development activities support resilient, self-sustaining organizations, structures, and practices that can deliver impactful and lasting SBC interventions.
  • Supporting Inspire SBC in identifying evidence-based, locally appropriate strategies and/or innovations, and ensuring they are effectively integrated within SBC capacity strengthening interventions, strategies, and programs in a timely manner.
  • Advocating for sustained investment in SBC capacity strengthening through strategic engagement with local governments, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Managing strong relationships with all partners and subcontracted organizations working to support SBC capacity and institutional strengthening and organizational development activities.
  • Providing directions to ensure technical activities are compliant with client agreements, government regulations, and AS-SBC policies and procedures, and are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Serving as the SBC capacity and institutional strengthening lead and key point of contact with USAID and other relevant stakeholders.
  • A master’s degree in international development, public health, behavioral science, or a related field, or higher.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in capacity and institutional strengthening for SBC and/or organizational development across multiple countries.
  • Experience leading SBC capacity and institutional strengthening at the regional or global level desired.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing organizational strategies, frameworks, and interventions.
  • Deep knowledge of ongoing and emerging issues in relation to capacity strengthening, systems strengthening, and/or organizational development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating capacity and institutional strengthening and/or organizational development strategies.
  • Strong leadership and management experience with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams
  • Extensive experience in evidence-based practice, with a focus on scaling effective SBC capacity-strengthening initiatives and programming.
  • Membership of the African Society for Social and Behavior Change.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, governments, and international partners.
  • Proficiency in English required, French strongly preferred.
