South Africa chapter
OUR CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS
We had the first hybrid convening of the South African Chapter of AS-SBC on 31 October, 2024. There was a good turnout, with 25 people attending in person and over 30 people online. Creating a home for AS-SBC in South Africa was enthusiastically received, with a preference for forming a community of practice over a formal chapter structure at this stage, until a more inclusive process of engagement can take place. This resonated all with all those who were in attendance.
To achieve its goals, the community of practice will host a variety of activities, including seminars and webinars where we will share knowledge, research, and case studies, and the creation of an expert pool where we will establish a network of experts who can support, mentor, and collaborate on SBC projects.
OUR TAGLINE
The primary aim of this community of practice is to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and strengthen the SBC work that members are already involved in within the South African context, among individual members and organisations. By promoting flexibility and inclusivity, the community of practice has the vision of creating a space for dialogue, learning and innovation grounded in the South African context that also can be fed into and informed by broader SBC conversations on the continent.
OUR FEATURED ARTICLES
These are the programs we have currently running, but we have new works in the pipeline.
OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM
As it stands, representatives from Wits and Heartlines are co-leading the community of practice. This includes administrative processes and liaising with the AS-SBC Secretariat. This agreement was warmly welcomed by the community. However, more conversations will be held on having a rotating leadership structure. The primary points of contact from the two organisations are:
- Ms Pamela Maluleke, Wits University
- Dr Sara Jewett, Wits University
- Dr Caryn Abrahms, Heartlines
Organizations on Board
The convening attracted individuals from a wide range of organizations, each committed to contributing to the growth and development of the community. Members represented a variety of sectors and bring unique perspectives and resources to the table, further enriching the community. A few of the organisations are:
