Goal 3: Enhance the competence, skills, and technical capacity of SBC practitioners in Africa.

Enhance the competence, skills, and technical capacity of SBC practitioners in Africa

Establish and offer a professional SBC course online and through other platforms. AS-SBC will collaborate with academic institutions and international SBC organisations to develop content and materials for a series of short training sessions in SBC basics. AS-SBC will offer these sessions through its website in collaboration with member organisations. Professional course content will be linked to continuing education requirements for certification (see Objective 2.2). A minimum of 200 practitioners will complete the course by 2028.

Establish a system for recognizing excellence in SBC efforts in Africa. AS-SBC will design and institute a regional awards programme for SBC programming and innovations that show results and/or advance SBC effectiveness or efficiency. This activity will be designed to encourage SBC practitioners to adhere to accepted SBC principles and practices, and to evaluate behavioral and social effects of their interventions.

Collaborate with stakeholders to organise SBC learning opportunities. These may include webinars, seminars, distance learning courses, and self-paced online courses. During the five years, AS-SBC will convene learning events at least two times each year, including mentorship clinics facilitated by members with expertise in specialised areas of SBC. Mentorship clinics will focus on skills such as developing theories of change, crafting monitoring and evaluation frameworks, designing rapid community engagement processes, and documenting social and behavioural results.

In addition to these short learning opportunities, AS-SBC will convene one SBC Conference for Africa during the five years. Participation in AS-SBC learning opportunities may be linked to continuing education requirements for certification.

Establish practical experience internships for young professionals and new graduates. The programme will be implemented by member organisations in countries where they operate. AS-SBC will draw on guidance, tools, and learnings from SBC, BCC and SBCC internship programmes that have been implemented by members in various countries around the world. The internship programme may be linked with participation in the SBC course described in Objective 3.1.
